Behind the Scenes

Donna & JP and Crossroads Studio

Hey Blog Friends!

I’ve been in North Carolina this week at the Proverbs 31 She Speaks conference. If you’re a speaker, writer or women’s ministry leader it’s a conference that will fill your soul and equip you in ministry, and if you can ever make it, by all means, do. Not only did I have the honor of speaking for a workshop, but I also was able to lead a group of aspiring speakers in a speaker’s evaluation group–great training for the beginning speaker.

The day before I boarded the plane for Charlotte, JP and I recorded a radio show to discuss SEEK. Typically JP’s show, Truth That Changes Lives (which airs daily on KKLA 99.5fm at 9:30pm Monday – Friday and at 10:30am on Sundays) features JP’s teaching, but in honor of last Monday’s book release, he graciously agreed to do a special show with me. Being married to the voice behind the show has its benefits. 🙂

I have to admit that I was more nervous to be interviewed by my own husband than by a total stranger (is that weird?),but we had so much fun we just may record together again. Prior to the recording, though, I found myself wishing we had planned the interview for another day, wondering if I should do the interview at all, and worried if I would do an adequate job.  In short, I questioned whether all the behind the scenes aspects of being an author would matter to anyone other than me.

That’s how it is with a lot of behind the scenes stuff, isn’t it?

The mom with toddlers wonders if all the behind the scenes discipline will one day sink in.

The gal with a demanding job wonders if all the emails, fact checking and late night work sessions will one day pay off.

The woman with a struggling marriage wonders if her efforts will ever result in a loving relationship.

The mother of teenagers wonders if all her prayers will someday make a difference.

In real life, the behind the scenes stuff matters.  It does.  The changed diapers, late night talks, endless carpools, 10 million meals made, and endless amounts of time spent managing the details of our lives and the lives of our family members matters. Because ultimately, what we take care of behind the scene doesn’t remain unseen.

So..what do you do behind the scene?

Yes, I tried to sign in and got bogged down with all that it entailed, anyway
all the info on Valentine’s day I wanted to add this: My husband Ed and I were
Married Feb. 14th, 1953, 64 yrs. ago now. We have 4 grown children and 4 grown
grandchildren. I listen to Greg Laurie every morning and two or 3 others as well.
I read John McArther’s daily Bible every morning for over 10 yrs. now. i hear all
the different things said about a good marriage and I think self pride would be one
thing that could destroy a marriage. Put your husband and family first.
