How to Become Thankful When You Feel Something Else

By November 25, 2014One Comment

I don’t feel thankful….I know I should, but I just don’t.
Every felt the way this gal felt? ? If being thankful is being full of thanks, what’s a girl to do when her thank tank is on empty? What does she do when rather than feeling full of thanks she feels full of stress? Or discouragement? Or hurt? Or anger? What if she’s just busy? Or bored? Or tired?  You know what I mean because you’ve been there a time or two.

This morning I opened my Bible and as I began to soak in God’s Word a little nugget of truth saturated my thoughts: Feeling thanks is an emotion but giving thanks is a choice. It’s in giving thanks that we become full of thanks. When I chose to gift my thanks to God for each small blessing (giving implies it’s a gift) I receive the blessing of experiencing a thankful heart.

Until today I always thought of God’s admonition to “Give thanks in all circumstances” as an obligation. Now I realize it’s an opportunity to be blessed.

It’s in the giving of thanks that we become full of thanks.

Try it, will you? It’s a game changer. I promise.

And why you’re at it, you might be interested in a little experiment in blessing I’m starting on Dec 1st, called 25 Days of Blessing. Here’s the info and email that’s going out soon (I’m sharing it with you now so you can be sure to get in on the action right when it starts!!)

What if this Christmas could be different? What if this Christmas could really, genuinely be blessed?

It can.

Join me online for “25 Days of Blessings”. Each day, beginning Dec 1st and concluding on Dec 25th you’ll receive an email with a scripture on blessing and a practical application to help you and your family be a blessing and be blessed. Think of it as a personal experiment in blessing.

It will be a fun, practical and inspiring way to keep Christ the main focus of Christmas. It will be something you can do on your own, or with your entire family. And it will be simple.

Join me for 25 Days of Blessings, won’t you? And tell your friends. This is just too good to keep to yourself!

I can’t wait to see how God makes ordinary people like us a blessing and blesses us in return. This is going to be exciting!!

Warmest blessings,
